FREQUENTLY  ASKED QUESTIONS

  • WHAT HAPPENS AT A PRENATAL CHIROPRACTIC APPOINTMENT?

The first appointment is 45 minutes. I use this time to get to know you, see how you are moving and find out how you are feeling. I also take some time to work directly on your problem area. At follow up appointments, we will continue to work together on your care plan. Depending on what you choose these appointments can range from 20 to 30 minutes.

  • WHAT TREATMENT TECHNIQUES DO YOU USE?

Over my career, I’ve trained in many different treatment methods. My treatment style is a unique blend of gentle muscle, joint and ligament techniques.

  • WHAT IS WEBSTER TECHNIQUE?

To best answer this question, I must first describe the structure of the pelvis.

There are two SI joints in the pelvis. An SI joint is formed when a sacrum connects with an ilium. A large percentage of the pregnant women I work with experience pain in their hips, along their SI joints.

Generally, speaking this technique examines the sacrum. To be more precise, Webster technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment for all weight-bearing individuals.

  • HOW CAN I TELL IF I NEED TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

You do not need to wait until you are in pain to see a chiropractor. Treatments can be helpful if you are feeling tight, stiff or “off.” Preventative care is vital to making sure you continue to feel good as your baby grows and the stresses on your body increase.

  • ARE CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENTS A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO PAIN RELIEVERS LIKE TYLENOL?

Your medical doctor will explain that if needed, Tylenol can be used to ease pain during pregnancy.  However, ideally all pharmacological medications for pain should be minimized during pregnancy as the risk to the developing fetus is unclear.

Chiropractic treatments are safe for both mom and baby, whether it is week 1 or 41. The treatment and exam are external, non-invasive, and the techniques are modified to be gentle but effective on pain.

  • IS NINE WEEKS TOO EARLY FOR TREATMENT?

Nine weeks is not too early for treatment. I’ve worked with women experiencing low back and hip pain very early in their pregnancies. Chiropractic exams and treatments are external, non-invasive, and the techniques are modified to be gentle but effective.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to this question. While most women feel improvement by the end of their first appointment, everyone responds differently to treatment.

Over the course of your pregnancy, your baby will continue to create changing stresses and demands on your body. The degree and nature of pain can vary from week to week or month to month.

Your needs will be unique to you – and we will work together to establish the right care plan for you.
